About Me and My Approach
My approach and how I work with you
In therapy sessions with me, you might experience a safe space to feel, explore, and express your feelings. You might experience care, trust, and validation. You will be engaged with and lovingly challenged. You will be joined with, in your pain. You will be asked good questions. You will be guided in expressive arts, mindfulness, and somatics (body) exercises. You might explore the origins of your problems. You might be invited to creatively explore and express yourself. You might learn more about different versions of yourself (or "parts") and what they need, especially your inner child. You might experience "re-parenting" and learn how to re-parent yourself. You might learn and practice strategies to address your difficulties. You might laugh and maybe cry.
I use trauma-informed, expressive arts, somatic, mindfulness, parts work, relational work, and liberation psychology.

About Me

I am Rosina Roibal, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Oakland, CA. I identify as a cis-gendered woman and bi-racial (Chicana and white). I am a single mother. I love to laugh. I have a lived experience, which I believe is powerful because my own suffering and healing can benefit others.
Social justice.... I have a life-long commitment to social justice and undoing racism, and I work towards cultural humility. Most of my work has been with folks from marginalized and disenfranchised communities (BIPOC & LGBTQI). I was a community organizer for most of my life. I now focus on healing trauma, and I believe that mental wellness is an act of resistance. And, that social change happens through relationship, the brain, and feelings.
Expressive arts therapy... I am an expressive arts therapist. Expressive arts therapy is using creativity and a variety of art modalities (visual art, music, movement, drama, etc.) to heal and grow. I believe that the arts are healing in-of themselves. I have experienced the power of the arts experiencing personal healing and transformation. I started playing viola in the 4th grade and it saved me, changing the negative path I was on. I later became a public school orchestra teacher, and then later the arts and culture organizer at a non-profit organization.
I have practiced as a psychotherapist since 2016 and became licensed in 2019. I received my master's degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco in the Expressive Arts Therapy program. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults individually, as conjoint/couples, families, and groups.
